Sights in Nuremberg
Nuremberg, situated along the famous Castle Road, is a modern city with mediaeval flair. At a total length of 5 km, the city walls with their towers and fortifications surround Nuremberg's historical centre. No other German city has retained such an amount of its fortification belt. Inside this small "city within a city", the Handwerkerhof of old Nuremberg with its half-timbered houses combines the art of craftsmanship and Franconian hospitality.
Nuremberg Castle "Kaiserburg"
The
city’s main landmark served as a residence for the Emperor of
the Holy
Roman Empire from 1050 to 1571. Visit The Palas, the main
building
with the royal suite, its sumptuously furnished Emperor's
rooms, the Roman double chapel, "the deep well", Sinwell Tower
and discover a diverse collection of articles and weapons.
Old City Hall
All the buildings, which were erected between the 14th and 17th century at the city hall square, the city hall's passageways and the Theresienstraße, are known as the "Old City Hall". The western façade was designed in line with those of archetypal Italian palaces and shapes the face of the city to this day.
Staatstheater
The Staatstheater ranks as one of the large 3-tiered theatres in Germany. Built in 1905, the opera house is one of the most stunning buildings in Germany and is the home of the Nuremberg Opera Balls, which take place annually in September. The theatre and a so-called "Blue Box" have been completed to date and provide a diverse range of cultural offerings.
Handwerkerhof
This
mediaeval village is located in the middle of Nuremberg, surrounded by
the city walls, which date back to the Middle Ages. Visitors can admire
the beautiful half-timbered houses and traditional craftsmanship in
various workshops and walkways: pewterers, glass cutters, potters,
puppet makers, gold and silver smiths, wax artists, gingerbread bakers
and much more.
German Rail Museum
Go
on a journey of discovery from the dawning of the
locomotive age right up to today, in the exhibitions of the German Rail
Museum. The collections shed light on the development of the
railways in Germany and the effects that this had on life,
the importance of the state railway during the war and Holocaust and
the differing developments of the railways in both East and
West Germany.
