As well as the cultural highlights there are plenty of other interesting attractions: palaces and castles yet also parks, beer gardens and guesthouses. Munich combines everything – grand, full of Bavarian flair and modern.

Our tip: with the reopening of the BMW Museum and the corporate headquarters, the BMW World offers visitors the opportunity to discover all there is to know about the BMW brand in the direct vicinity of the main BMW plant.

St. Peter's Church

St. Peter's Church - © Lucky Dragon - Fotolia.comThe most beautiful tower, which may be climbed in the city centre is the tower of St. Peter's Church, lovingly called "Old Peter" by Munich's residents. From a height of 78 metres it offers a stunning view over the streets and alleyways of the old town and on clear days even as far as the alpine uplands. Another insider tip for similarly beautiful views is the 85-metre- high city hall tower.

New City Hall

Marienplatz square - © Arnd Drifte -Fotolia.comThe neo-Gothic New City Hall can be found on the Marienplatz square in the heart of Munich. At 11 o'clock in the morning, visitors flock to the famous city hall bell tower: 43 chimes ring out across the square and 32 figures dance the Schäfflertanz (dance of the cooper's guild). The Marienplatz is also a magnet for visitors in the evening: at 9 pm the nightwatchman gives their signal.

Nymphenburg Palace

The Baroque building in the west of the city acted as the summer residence of the rulers of Bavaria. As well as other exhibits, visitors to the palace museum can take a look at the room in which King Ludwig II of Bavaria was born, and the lavish grand hall. The original construction and palace grounds were designed with French palaces acting as inspiration. Extensions included galleries, pavilions, orangeries and much more, which together create the expansive palace grounds.

English Garden

Everyone can unwind and relax in the English Garden. Enjoy cycling, strolling accross the lawns or simply kick back and enjoy the sunshine.

Hofbräuhaus

Munich, beer and the Hofbräuhaus: this local drinking hole in the heart of the city has been drawing in citizens of Munich and travellers from all corners of the globe for over 400 years. The tasty beer, the traditional specialities, the place’s proverbial comfort and its history have made this beer palace at the Platzl square the most famous tavern in the world.
