Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra and Gewandhaus Concert Hall 

Classical music has been encouraged and developed in Leipzig for some 250 years and the Gewandhaus Orchestra has achieved international fame, in the same way as the Gewandhaus itself. The orchestra plays during the shows at the opera house and at the performances of the Bach cantatas together with the resident choir at St. Thomas' Church.

  


Leipzig Opera House

The Opera House consists of opera, musical comedy and the Leipzig Ballet company and it is the third largest civic music theatre in Europe. Important soloists, the Gewandhaus Orchestra, a superb choir and the ballet company are well practiced in captivating international audiences and contribute unequivocally to the reputation of the Gewandhaus.

  


Panometer Leipzig

Leipzig - The Term PanometerThe term Panometer was born from the amalgamation of the words panorama and gasometer: behind the brick facade of a converted gas storage unit, visitors will find the largest panorama painting in the world at present. From the 27th March 2009, guests can marvel at the 360° panoramic painting "Amazonia" and be transported into the world of the Brazilian rain forest.


City of Reunification and Change

Leipzig was the starting point of the peaceful revolution of 1989, which then spread across the whole of former East Germany. Discover the original sites and settings for the revolution such as Augustusplatz, St. Nicholas' Church, the Museum at the "Runden Ecke" (Round Corner) and the Promenadenring.

   


Monument to the Battle of the Nations "Völkerschlachtsdenkmal"

The monument was erected at its historical site to mark the centenary of the Battle of the Nations. From 16th to the 19th of October 1813, the Napoleonic Army fought against Swedish, Austrian, Prussian and Russian troops and eventually succumbed to their might. 500 steps lead up to the viewing platform, which rests at a height of 91 metres. Savour the views from the largest monumental construction in Europe and admire the many statues and reliefs which adorn the skyline.

   


Leipzig Zoo

Leipzig - The ZooThe city's most popular leisure facility is one of the oldest and most diverse zoos in the world: Leipzig Zoo.  Visitors, both young and old, can undertake a journey 

of discovery through the various themed areas such as Africa, Asia, South America, the founder's garden with its aquarium and insectarium, Pongoland - the world of the great apes - and Gondwanaland, a tropical enclosure.
