Hamburg's Skyline

Hamburg's SkylineHamburg is well known for its many church spires; they rise high above other buildings, creating a magnificent skyline. Remarkable places of worship in Hamburg include St. Peter's, St. Michaelis, St. Jacobi, St. Nikolai and St. Catherine's, to name but a few. Some of the churches date back to the 11th century, and after the war, they were perfectly reconstructed down to the finest detail.

Speicherstadt

The hundred-year-old Speicherstadt is the largest warehouse complex in the world. Exquisite goods are stored here, such as coffee, tea, cocoa and oriental rugs. The Speicherstadt Museum and the Spice Museum offer an insight into the history
of the Speicherstadt. Bordering the Speicherstadt is HafenCity, which combines living and office space, as well as leisure facilities.


BallinStadt - Port of  Dreams

The Alster

Hamburg - The AlsterThe Alster is a 160-hectare lake in the heart of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg. Many canals dissect a beautiful park, offering a world of sport and recreation. All around the Alster, cafés and restaurants provide the perfect place to while away a few hours. The Kennedy and Lombard bridges separate the larger outer Alster from the smaller inner Alster.


The Reeperbahn

The most famous street in Hamburg is an absolute must for any visitor to the city. The red-light district, "the most sinful stretch in Hamburg", offers more than just eroticism; here, in the many clubs and bars, is where visitors will find the pulse of Hamburg's nightlife. This entertainment district has a cultural highlight for everyone, whether young or old, with the operetta house and Schmidt's theatre with comedy, musicals and cabaret.


Hamburg's Fish Market

Hamburg's Fish MarketThose who have been partying on the Reeperbahn until the early hours can reinvigorate themselves on Sundays at the fish market, as early as 5 am (from 7 am October to March). Yet it is not just the night owls who are drawn to the fish market in the early morning. Thousands of visitors taste the fresh fish here and enjoy taking in the atmosphere with all the hustle and bustle of the market, including the famous stall holder Aale Dieter.


Nightlife

Whether in the Schanze, Ottensen or the red-light district, either smart or casual, there is something to suit everyone in the nightlife of Hamburg. The Alpha Noble Ice Bar, Germany's first and only ice bar, Bar Indochine, an elegant bar in the style of 1920s China and many other locations are always worth a visit.The Gendarmenmarkt square offers exclusive drinking and dining options.
