Sights in Berlin
Experience Berlin at Potsdamer Platz, on a stroll down Friedrichstraße, or venture out into the city's multicultural nightlife. Enjoy the views over Berlin from the Fernsehturm (TV tower), get a sense of history walking through Brandenburg Gate, visit the Reichstag or Museum Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and check out the Kurfürstendamm shopping street. Berlin additionally offers its guests a fascinating cityscape composed of vast lakes, parks and forests. There are also many attractions in the surrounding area, including the city of Potsdam.
The Brandenburg Gate
Until
1989 Berlin's main landmark, the Brandenburg Gate, was a symbol of the
city's East and West division. Today it serves as a national symbol of
German unity. Since the restoration efforts of 2002, it is now more
beautiful than ever. From Brandenburg Gate, you can walk across
Pariser Platz to the famous "Unter den Linden" boulevard.
Museum Island
On
Museum Island, you will find one of the largest museum complexes in
Europe, home to several national collections. Highlights include Karl
Friedrich Schinkel's Altes Museum (old museum), the Alte
Nationalgalerie (old national gallery) and the Pergamon Museum. The
latter features the reconstructed Pergamon Altar and the Babylonian
Processional Way.
Parliamentary and Governmental District
A
short walk from the Tierpark, one can find the Reichstag and Berlin's
Victory Column along a bend in the River Spree. The Reichstag, with its
glass dome, is one of the most-visited sites in the city. The German
Chancellery, the Federal Press Conference and the French and British
embassies are also in the vicinity.
Kurfürstendamm
One of the most popular shopping streets in Berlin, the Kurfürstendamm on the West side of the city is known all over the world. 3.5 km in length, it is ideal for shopping or just enjoying a cup of coffee. The "Kudamm" is a special experience, even if only for a short stroll. Savour the unique atmosphere.
Nightlife
Experience Berlin's exciting night life. The parties, bars and clubs here are as diverse as the city itself. Whether in Mitte, Friedrichshain or Pankow, there's bound
to be something for everyone. Insider tip: for grand ambiance with international flair, head to Felix in Hotel Adlon. Here, you might even spot a celebrity or two on a night out. Or go on a culinary journey around the world in Prenzlauer Berg. In addition to the restaurants, many enticing nightlife locations are also to be found here. The Gendarmenmarkt square offers exclusive drinking and dining options.
